Perfect blend of style…

I have always been a fan of LG’s gallery range of TVs. They’re designed to be stylish without compromise. Previous iterations of the gallery series have always offered stand-out performance, and the same is true for the LG G3 evo. This year, the stand-out technology is the Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology which significantly improved the brightness of the TV. While I could spend days discussing the different technologies, I’ll say what I liked and didn’t like to keep it simple. I am coming for the LG G1, which I will draw some comparisons to.
What I liked:
- The new screen is very bright, and for the first time, it can be used in all room conditions, whether on a sunny day or in a pitch-black room. There is also a new coating on the screen which deals with reflections much more effectively when compared to my LG G1 TV.
- The screen itself is fantastic, the colours are bold rich and (to my eye) quite accurate. Watching all types of content looks amazing on this screen.
- I love that the TV signposts when you’re watching Dolby Vision or Atmos content, so you know you’re making the most of the respective technologies.
- I like that the software automatically recognises devices like an Apple TV, Xbox, or PlayStation plugged into the TV.
- The TV is excellent for gaming. All the HDMI ports are HDMI 2.1, which is very suitable for next-gen consoles. It also has a valuable gaming dashboard which allows you to tweak the TV to suit the type of game you’re playing.
- The TV is effortless to set up, and plugging in my soundbar was plug and play, as were my other devices.
- The menu system seems to be improved compared to the LG G2.
- The software is much faster than before. Navigating the TV is fast, and most interactions are snappy.
What I didn’t like:
- Still, I do not like WebOS. There are still too many ADs, and the software feels messy. It is best to plug into your preferred streaming stick and stick with that.
- The remote control feels cheap, and I hate the motion control. Sometimes you’ll just be navigating the menus or trying to click something, and the motion controls kick in.
- The cable management could be improved, especially since this TV is designed to be wall mounted.
- Not really a fault, but the 65” is less sharp than my old 55” one because the pixels are spread over a larger area. Keep this in mind if you’re putting this screen in a smaller room.
Overall, I would highly recommend the LG G3.
